CPA Advocates Program

Advocacy sounds intimidating. It isn’t.

The accounting world is inherently steeped in regulation: tax procedures, federal and state legislation, and seemingly endless standards from outside bodies. But policymakers can’t craft sound policies without input from the experts. That’s where the VSCPA — and your voice — makes its mark.

The most powerful introduction might be yours.

The key to influencing legislation and regulation is getting in on the ground floor. It’s who you know that matters.

The most valuable thing you can tell us may simply be a name! Personal connections are often what matters most. No commitment comes with telling us — we’re building the map first.

Don't know anyone yet? That's a-okay. You can still be a CPA Advocate!

We'll work with you to determine the best way to make your advocacy count — for you and your profession across the Commonwealth.

Ready to raise your hand? 🖐️ Just fill out this quick form.

The kind of connections that count

A legislator who is…

  • A current or former client.
  • A neighbor or someone in your community.
  • A childhood friend or former classmate.
  • A fellow nonprofit board member.
  • Someone you know through family, church or civic life.

Policy over politics.

Our advocacy is about sound policy, not political discourse. We aren’t asking you to take sides.

Lawmakers must understand what a proposal actually means for constituents before they vote. And who might they call when they need to cut through the noise? A familiar CPA they already know and trust could be the key.

What you’ll do as a CPA Advocate.

It’s super easy to become an Advocate; just fill out the form and tell us who you know! As an Advocate, you’ll…

  • Receive resources to help you stay informed about the VSCPA’s key legislative issues.
  • Connect with your legislator by sharing your perspective. We can provide sample messages, or you can use our talking points to reach out in your own words. You’ll do whatever you feel most comfortable with. There’s no pressure!
  • Be invited to attend CPA Assembly Day in Richmond along with fellow VSCPA leaders, members and staff.

When lawmakers hear directly from CPAs, they better understand the ramifications of their votes.
